Nancy Wilson, a jazz musician and a three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Ohio, Chillicothe on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. had worked for a long period as housekeeper. Nancy was the first of six children. Nancy was influenced by her father's music taste and the records that were played in her family home. At the age of four, Nancy was aware that she wanted to be a musician. She discovered her talent for music through participating in choirs of the church. The show was on television at the age of 15 and started appearing regularly on the Tv show Skyline Melodies while still in high school. At the age of 15years old, Nancy started her career in night clubs. Nancy dropped out of Central State University in Ohio after matriculating for an entire year. She made her first recording with the Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, with whom she performed between 1956 and 1958. Nancy released her debut recording on Dot Records during the time she spent in this band. Cannonball told her she should make the move to New York and go to The Big Town for the rest of her professional career. After just a few days after, her manager heard her singing and hired her. She initially focused on blues and rhythm under the influence of Adderley, she shifted away from R&B and began to embrace the torch and jazz genres. In the year following, this led to her being booked at the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
